- Hello
-
- This is a signature programme which uses a public key encryption
- method. This is a test version. It signes and checks signatures
- attached to mail messages. So you can validate, check and authorize
- messages and their contents over a public communication channel.
- It also acts as a seal, any changes to the message will render
- the singnature invalid.
-
- Future versions will use longer keys. I'd like to ask everyone to
- comment upon this programme. See the !Help file for a decent
- explanation. This programma also supports the acorn interactive
- help application.
-
- In brief
-
- This programme is based on the September article of the AcornUser
- and a module called 'BigNumbers' and some discussions on USENet.
-
- Use 'Maker' to create your personal signature and its public components.
- The public part can be send to me. I will distrubute them to all the
- people participating.
-
- The first time you run !Signature you are asked to enter a password,
- this is going to be used to scramble your secret key; Maker just
- stores this very precious item on the hard-disc naked! For this you
- have to use a 'token sentence', not a single password but a sentence.
- !Signature will not quit until you have entered a password sentence.
-
- Example : He himself is quite a good rabbit you know
- Drink Driving is a very stupid offence
-
- After this you can use the programme. On consequtive runs you will have
- to re-enter the password sentence. If you do not do this, the programme
- will behave normally but you are unable to sign messages.
-
- The programme is based on a 'point' situation. People write messages
- in an editor. They 'save' these messages normally to their point-programme.
- In order to sign it you simply drag it to !Signature to have it signed,
- after some seconds a save-as box will open and you can drag it to its
- destination. To check someone his signature, which MUST be on the list
- just drag is message into !Signature and the programme will report on
- the reliablity of the signature. To allow the programme to recognize the
- name of the sender, whose public-key it has to look for on the list, it
- expect a certain configurable header format. See the !Help file.
-
- Known problems.
-
- Checksums are not perfect, too slow...
- No automatic multi level signatures
- Only CR or LF line separators, no LF+CR
- Sensitive to 'weird' mailer substitutions, some change a '{}' into a [].
-
